The Nihilist

There is a school of thought I have come to know

That I have not known before.

I see- as seeing is in the mind-

A man who is this thing…

He lives in the heart of winter

And that heart is all he knows.

His life is like a winter wind

That is cold and harsh to others.

He looks into an empty sky

With a heart that is just the same-

And his words mean nothing to no one.

He sleeps alone, and is very cold-

And love is a stranger strange.

He has but one companion

But of him he has no knowledge-

And ‘tis well that it is so…

His only truth is that life is a lie

And he loves neither truth nor lies.

The world is a thing that merely is,

And a thing that should not be-

Its laws are an empty meaning

To a world that is meaningless…

He longs for death as men long for life-

And his only love is hate.

Disaster carries no pain

As pain is all that he carries:

All is pain and sorrow,

And pain and sorrow are nothing…

He will end, and yet nothing is ending-

For life was just that nothing.

He will pass, and nothing passes-

He will lose what he never found.

I pity this man of nothing

And am glad that pity I have-

For if pity is what I feel

Perhaps life has meaning still…

It is an interesting thought. The poem is very good. I must say l can’t understand the thoughts or reasoning behind a Nihilistic mind set. I found this thought ” Don’t let life Turn you into a Hard, tough person. Real courage is staying kind even when life isn’t” .
