Verse 1.

So when their spaceship

First touched the ground

The place was empty-

No one was around…

But then, much later

As the red dust cleared

On the horizon

Some Martians appeared!

The human’s Mars buggy

Was sent to say Hi!-

The Martians seemed angry:

The humans would die!

But thanks to young Johnny

Who made a mistake…

Appeasing those Martians

Was a piece of cake!

Chorus 1.

“Who are you!?”

“We come in peace!”

Who are you!?”

“We come in peace!”

Verse 2.

So poor young Johnny-

Who had a nervous twitch-

When sat at his station

He pressed the wrong switch…!

He wanted a weapon

To fight with their foe-

But instead of the phaser

He turned on the radio!

Some funky music

Just happened to be on-

The Martians stopped threatening

And then sang along!

They moved with their bodies-

Which were tall and thin-

They grooved to the music,

And kept on dancing!

Chorus 2.

“We just love that noise!”

“YAAAHOO!”

“I wonder what it is?”

“We’ve been saved!”

Verse 3.

Thanks to the funky music

The humans were alright:

They kept the radio playing

All day and night!

The Martians loved the beats-

But the humans had had enough!-

They knew it couldn’t stop though

Or else they’d have it rough!

The colony was founded

Which Earth was pleased to hear-

When they heard about the Martians

They couldn’t believe their ears!

The Martians kept on funkin’

And the humans settled in…

They didn’t mind their new home

But couldn’t stand the din!

Chorus 3.

“Play that funky music, space boy!

“Oh no! Not again! I wonder if they like classical music…?”
